The Romero Lives Film Series presents: A Celebration of Pittsburgh’s Horror Master, George A. Romero

Two reigning masters of cinematic horror, George Romero and Dario Argento, who had been friends and collaborators since the 1970s, come together for a 2-man anthology of films based on their favorite stories by Edgar Allan Poe, relocated to late 80s Pittsburgh. Argento, Italy’s undisputed maestro of the macabre, contributes a story based on Poe’s fiendish “The Black Cat” in which hotshot photojournalist Harvey Keitel finds himself pursued by the ghost of a cat he’d mercilessly strangled for a lurid, sensationalist book of photography. In “The Facts in the Case of M. Valdemar,” Romero tells the story of a wife, magnificently played by Adrienne Barbeau, who has her much older husband hypnotized on his deathbed so as to direct his vast fortune in her direction when he dies. But even after he passes away, he might not be gone. With some of the most impressive make-up effects of Pittsburgh legend Tom Savini’s career, Two Evil Eyes is a blast, one of Romero’s most purely enjoyable efforts.  “A match made in hell, a dream realized for many horror fans.” – Slant Magazine
