Season of the Witch
The Romero Lives Film Series presents: A Celebration of Pittsburgh’s Horror Master, George A. Romero

Romero’s first explicitly feminist film, Season of the Witch is the story of a disaffected housewife being tempted by pagan mysticism in Pittsburgh’s northern suburbs. Left alone for long stretches by her domineering, abusive husband, and haunted by recurring dreams of him controlling her like a dog, Joan finds solace, and power, in the local coven. She grows increasingly independent, pursues an affair, and finds fulfillment in witchcraft that her seemingly perfect marriage never gave her. A savage indictment of the casual misogyny that infused every aspect of 70s America, Season of the Witch was decades ahead of its time and is only now receiving the recognition merited by the boldness of its themes and its artistry.
